What may first strike you is the sheer open and spaciousness which West Sussex generously shares. No high hedgerows here but lovely views seemly around every bend leading into the many picturesque villages with their quaint dwelling places of thatch and Sussex stone. Many boast 11th and 12th century churches still holding regular services today, including St. Michael's in Amberley with wonderful ancient wall paintings.
