| Ocklynge Manor is the only accommodation in Eastbourne to hold Visit Britain's Five Star Gold & The AA's top award, ie ‘Highly Commended’. Situated in a quiet location, just over a mile from Eastbourne's sea front, it is convenient for the Eastbourne Ladies International Tennis Tournament, theatres, the South Down Way, Beachy Head and Glyndebourne. The house sits within a ¾ acre walled garden and is just a short walk from Eastbourne’s town centre. The site was once a monastery and Commandery for the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem. The current house was built about 300 years ago and is one of Eastbourne’s oldest houses. A dwelling has existed on the site for at least a 1000 years. The Peter Pan illustrator, Mabel Lucie Attwell, also lived here; hence the blue plaque on the road-side wall. Guests are able to enjoy a delicious breakfast with home-made bread and marmalade, as well as the luxury of Egyptian cotton linen.
Eastbourne is 45 – 60 minutes train journey/drive from Gatwick Airport and a short boat journey to France from nearby Newhaven. We are fortunate to be able to enjoy the ladies international tennis at Devonshire Park in June and Glyndebourne during the opera season. There are also local theatres, museums, sailing clubs, the beach, glorious sea front gardens, golf clubs including East Sussex National Golf Club and a great variety of National Trust houses to visit. Many people come to walk the South Downs Way or enjoy the local countryside.
There is a £5.00 per person supplement for single night reservations from Monday to Thursday (single occupancy is only available at our discretion). Minimum 2 night stay at weekends to include Friday/Saturday or Saturday/Sunday. Bank Holidays and Airbourne International Air Show (16-19 August) - Minimum 2 night stay.
